Jo Sharon (Reynolds) Smith

Jo Sharon (Reynolds) Smith, 74, of Bloomfield, NM, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, due to complications from acute pneumonia. For the past year, she had been living in Bloomfield with her daughter, Deanna Smith, and was able to spend precious time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren also residing there.

Born September 25, 1945, in Pittsburg, TX, to Weldon Truitt and Laura Ovelle (Reynolds) Reynolds, Sharon was a 1964 graduate of Pittsburg High School (PHS). Afterwards, she earned a beautician’s license, and graduated from Federal Institute of Business in Tyler, TX. After serving for 16 years as a dispatcher-jailer, Sharon retired from Camp County Sheriff’s Office in Pittsburg. She also worked as an independent Avon representative, and later for Pittsburg ISD as a teacher’s aide in the Home Economics Department of PHS.

A loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, Sharon was so very proud of her family. As a divorced single parent, she worked as many as three different jobs at one time in order to provide for her family of three children. Sharon strived to always be there for her loved ones and for others, gathering clothing and household goods for donation to those less fortunate. She would give the shirt off of her back, or the last dollar in her billfold to anyone in need. Her home was a warm, welcoming shelter and retreat for loved ones in need of nurturing, and a fun haven for many family and YA-YA gatherings. Her absence leaves a gaping hole in many lives until the much-anticipated Heavenly reunion!

Sharon was preceded in death by both parents, as well as stepmother Edith (Boyd) Reynolds, maternal grandparents Wheeler and Eunice Reynolds, and paternal grandparents Troy and Gladys Reynolds. She is survived by daughters Darla Ovelle Smith of Kilgore, TX, and Deanna Jo Smith of Bloomfield, NM; son Jason Heath Smith and wife, Pam, of Pittsburg. Grandchildren are Joshua Grace and wife, Megan, of Oklahoma City, OK; Paul Fahlgren and wife, Katherine, of Dallas, TX; Brittany Jaramillo and husband, Tim, Laney Swanson, and Jim Bob Kemph, all of Bloomfield, NM; Sean Smith and Emily Smith, both of Pittsburg; Sierra Lynne Sisson Sears and partner Todd McGaughy of Burleson, TX. Great-grandchildren include Zoey Foss, Dakota Foss, and Boston Foss of Oklahoma City, OK; Brenadi Slade, David Slade, Avery Jaramillo, and Joseph Staggs, all of Bloomfield, NM; Wyatt Newsom Kemph of Pittsburg, and Mason Kemph of Seguin, TX; Tayler Nicole McGaughy and Brice Richard Alan McGaughy of Burleson, TX. Other survivors include sister Laura (Reynolds) Lunsford and husband, Bob, of Kingwood, TX, stepbrother David Clifton and partner Colleen Barnard of Emory, TX, as well as one aunt, several nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

Visitation with family members was held on Friday evening, January 31, 2020, at Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington, NM. Sharon’s life will be celebrated with a memorial at 10:00am, February 15, 2020, Assembly of God Church of Bloomfield, where she had been attending worship services. At a later date yet to be determined, her remains will be brought back to Pittsburg for burial at Crossroads Cemetery. In the future, once information is available regarding a graveside service for Sharon, it will be passed along to family, friends, and PHS 1964 classmates.
