Graveside services for Sandra Wynne Craig 81, of Kilgore will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Matinburg Cemetery in Camp County with Pastor Don Sides officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. Mrs. Craig passed away peacefully on September 19, 2023, surrounded by her children.
Born December 19, 1941, in a house in Turnertown, TX, Sandra grew up in Tyler, TX. She was a 1960 graduate of John Tyler High School, where she met her future husband, Thomas Wayne Craig. They married on May 23, 1963, in Spain where Tommy was stationed in the Air Force. They returned to the United States in time for the birth of their first child, Chance Wayne Craig in 1964. Their daughter Bliss Wynne Craig was born in 1967, followed by Cash Worth Craig in 1973.
Sandra was a stay-at-home mother while the children were growing up, also assisting Tommy in various businesses. When Cash started kindergarten in 1979, Sandra also started her cosmetology degree at Kilgore College. A year later, Sandra was officially a hairstylist. She worked continually until retiring in 2016 after a diagnosis of colon cancer.
Sandra worked hard her entire life while also keeping the family together. Tommy’s job took him out-of-town a lot, so it fell on Sandra to care for the house and the children while working full-time. Almost nothing could keep her from her stylist job, even though it became harder for her to stand. She continued to work throughout Tommy’s illness and death in 2012. She finally hung up her scissors at the age of 75 after styling hair for 36 years. After retirement, Sandra enjoyed spending time with her sister Janice, with whom she ate lunch almost every day.
Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Craig; her parents, Glynn and Marie Wynne; her in-laws, Lawrence and Edna Craig; and her sister, June Harvey.
She is survived by her children, Chance Craig and wife Jayne of Longview; Bliss Bednar and husband Pete of Caldwell; and Cash Craig and wife Christina of Sachse; her grandchildren, Lacey Craig, Cody Craig and wife Paytyn, and Cameron Craig; Shelby Bednar; and Caitlyn and Camdyn Craig. She is also survived by her sister Janice Caldwell and husband Vernon of Kilgore, and her nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m., to 10:40 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Erman Smith Funeral Home.
